Open a bubbly to celebrate
Wine of the week: Hunter's MiruMiru Vintage 2020 RRP $43.99
WIth Méthode Marlborough Day held this week, it seems timely to make it a sparkling wine of the week and what better than the toasty richness of this dry, long aged Pinot Noir-led bubbly from Hunter's Wines. It's a rhetorical question and a great wine. This is 77% Pinot Noir and 23% Chardonnay, which adds the crispness and freshness to the great depths of Pinot's body, mouthfilling broadness and layers of savoury deliciousness.
Great wine. Great to celebrate being able to enjoy it when the world is so full of so many big challenges right now.
Here's a toast to Méthode Marlborough - a group after my own heart.
Find out more about them below.
This year's Méthode Marlborough Day was Friday 28 March (yesterday, at the time of writing) and the bubbles definitely flew with two outstanding examples from the group of winemakers who created Méthode Marlborough (MM) as a group.
There are currently 12 members of MM and it can grow any time that another Marlborough based sparkling wine producer wants to join. I hope it does grow because membership and adherence to this body's set of guidelines raises the bar of integrity for sparkling wine in New Zealand's largest wine region.
In a nutshell, the aim of member wineries to MM is to put Marlborough's best foot forward in sparkling wine that is made 100% from Marlborough-grown grapes, aged for at least 18 months on lees in the bottle following its second fermentation and subtle but important other rules, which you can find out more about on their website at methodemarlborough.org
